Cambridge Open Studios - July 2013

It's that time of year again when I will be showing my latest collection of paintings.....from a visit to Florence and the rolling hills of Tuscany, the undersea world of coral and tropical fish, to local scenes of Cambridge and St. Ives. Cards and prints will be for sale as well as original framed and unframed watercolour paintings. Opening times : Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July 2013 Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July 11.00 am - 6.00 pm I hope you can visit my studio and learn a little about the wonderful and creative techniques of watercolour painting. May 2013 workshops
My May workshops have just finished and enjoyment was had by all especially the 'paint pouring ' and gold leaf techniques. The subjects were very varied and ranged from sunlit lilies with wet in wet backgrounds , a detailed Cambridge scene in the springtime with a host of golden yellow daffodils , a coral reef exploring Chinese techniques of 'pouring the paint' and colour blending , and finally experimenting with washes and tones with a tranquil river scene at dusk. My next set of four week workshops will be in September. See 'workshop' link for further details.

April 2013 Commissions
My two latest commissions are featured below. Firstly 'Orchids' painted from the client's photos from visits to Singapore and Thailand. This was a very large painting on full imperial size watercolour paper with a deep pinky purple hand painted wooden frame. I was really pleased with the final results as were Rob and Jill. Many thanks to both of you for your patience.

'Orchids'

My second commission was of two very fluffy and beautiful black cats 'Merlot and Spritzer'. I had several sittings with them and I must say they were both very well behaved cats! Painting black fur in watercolour is quite challenging as we do not use black paint. Instead a mix of Brown Madder, Indigo and Delft Blue created the perfect colour combinations. Thank you Sue and I'm so pleased your husband was thrilled with his surprise birthday painting.
